Things I love, not that anyone asked.
I just finished a book by Naomi Ragen that I must highly recommend The Ghost of Hannah Mendes. Especially around the holidays. But here are a few other things I really love.
Books - Anything by Naomi Ragen, Mary Stewart, John Jakes (except the Americans series).
Movies -
Books - Anything by Naomi Ragen, Mary Stewart, John Jakes (except the Americans series).
Movies -
- Chicago
- The King and I (Yul Brynner and Deborah Kerr)
- A Field of Their Own (makes me cry)
- The Hunt for Red October
- Anything with Jason Statham in it, namely The Transporter and the Transporter 2, (what can I say?)
TV
- Medium (my favorite show), I especially like the middle daughter, every line she says is amazing.
- West Wing
- Battlestar Galactica (it rubs off).
- Monk (we share some of the same neuroses).
Shout out if you're with me.

I love Monk! Really funny & mentally challenging, yet without obscenity.
Are those 3 authors at the top Jewish? Maybe I'll try them out...

Im a huge fan of monk and the west wing (funny with a lot of mussar haskel's, and with regards to the West Wing also very informative about how government works) but i believe its a callied a league of their own or field of dreams. Maybe u meant both of them. shavua tov and gut moed. Brad

I also really liked The Ghost of Hannah Mendes, but I'm not as crazy about Naomi Ragen's other books. They are a little too contrived, and she pushes the lines of belivability right over the edge in a few instances. Like the book Jepthe's Daughter, where the girl winds up earning a living and putting herself through grad school doing portrait photograpghy.(One of my closest friends does that kind of work. Makes about enough the pay her phone bill.) Oh yes, and she's a single mom. And then the guy's maternal grandmother just happens to have been Jewish???

Somebody please tell me if the 3 authors are Jewish. I read half of Call It Sleep and it was horrible. I'd like to find somebody who writes honestly about Orthodox Jews.

Ragen is Jewish. The other two are not. Mary Stewart is Scottish, right? And like 97 years old.
Mrs. B: You left out Columbo and The A-Team.

First of all, you found me out. It is a League of their Own, I saw field of Dreams, it wasn't as good. I do this a lot, so get used to it.
Naomi Ragen is Jewish and I think she lives in Israel. There is also a guy Zev Chafetz I think, who wrote a really good book, I can't remember it's name, but it also takes place in modern Israel.
Another author I really love is Erich Segal. He wrote Acts of Faith, which you honestly think has to be written by a Jew. Read it, you'll thank me later.

Thanks, you two. I'll add those to my list. Wish I could meet y'all someday; not too far but I rarely travel. Money & logistics & all.
How's Chaim Potok? I read The Chosen way back in JH, but I can't remember the tone it had.

I liked the Chosen, but it is not necessarily kind to Chassidim.
Herman Wouk (The Cain Mutiny) wrote a book called This is My G-d, and another one about his time at Yeshiva University called Inside/Outside I think. Both are very good.

Battlestar Galactica. Addictive. That blond cylon gives me the creeps--scariest sexpot I've ever seen.
