Where are your boots?

I would like an unscientific poll from my four readers on when is the correct time of year to put away your boots.

It is a proven fact that putting your boots in the closet before April can result in 4" of snow overnight. This hypothesis has been proven numerous times by countless grad students.

My sister has postulated that May is a safe date to her. Hear me now and believe me later, there is no safe time. And that goes double for snowpants.

To save time and toil, all you bloggers in states that receive no snow are disqualified from commenting. (Until you have shovelled the stuff and got some in your boots where it melts on just the inside of your ankle and your boots stay wet for a week, you haven't really lived.)

I know, I hear you get sand in your sneakers a lot. That must be rough.

The visual imagery of the snow in the ankles was a bit too much...even though I'm now living in the mostly snow free zone of Jerusalem

I want to publicly apologize to all of you in the Midwest and the east coast who recently had unexpected snow storms:

    It's my fault.

I washed my car last week.

For the record, when I said May, I meant Memorial Day, not May Day or Cinco de Mayo. Snowpants can be put away after Income Tax Day, which is April 15 in the USA and April 30th in Canada.

What if they're white? Can you leave them out until Labor Day?

I've seen snow on June 1st, so... I'd have to say never. :(

Ralphie - I own several pairs of boots. I used to have some winter white ones and I threw them out and have never been able to replace them.

In California I saw people wear boots as a fashion statement "because it's winter". In the midwest, while you can wear fashion boots, nobody wears them unless it is wet, cold or slushy. Comes a time when you don't even want to look at those boots anymore.

Ezzie - it has never snowed in June, but thanks for playing.

Fashion boots, IME, do not serve the purpose boots are supposed to be made for. They are fashionable, only.

When living in the great state of Wisconsin, both boots and flip-flops should always be at hand. Don't put them any more 'away' than the closet.
